The Challenge
Data centers power our world. But the data center industry is suffering from a perfect storm, caused by inadequate cooling, that puts future opportunity at risk.
Today's data centers struggle to cool servers that consume 4kW or more. Tomorrow’s servers will be so hot, thousands of existing data centers will become obsolete.
By 2025, data centers are expected to consume 8% of the world’s electricity and a typical data center uses the same amount of water as a city of 30,000-50,000 people. Power and water consumption are skyrocketing and power utilization efficiency remains flat -so costs, emissions and waste are skyrocketing.
Because of these facts, regulators are putting pressure on data center designers and operators alike, wanting environmental improvements as soon as possible.
To move past these challenges, new thinking, new technologies, and new designs are needed. That’s where Ultrascale Digital Infrastructure comes in.
On the one hand, emerging capabilities, including generative AI, are accelerating demand for hot and dense designs that utilize new silicon, servers, and architectures.
On the other hand, the industry tries to support these capabilities and technologies with data center designs and data center cooling technologies developed a decade ago. Today, we see thousands of data centers that fail to:
On the other hand, the industry tries to support these capabilities and technologies with data center designs and data center cooling technologies developed a decade ago. Today, we see thousands of data centers that fail to:
Maximize rack density -- most operators do not have any racks beyond 20 kW.
Use energy efficiently -- average global power usage effectiveness (PUE) levels have remained flat for four years.
Manage resource utilization -- a large data center uses the same amount of water as a city of up to 50,000 people.
Minimize carbon emissions -- most only collect a limited amount of sustainability related data.
Many data centers simply can't support emerging technologies, regulators and investors are doubling down on environmental scrutiny and data center builds are being restricted or blocked.
Today’s data center industry can’t escape the storm using conventional thinking: new thinking, new technologies, and new designs are needed. That’s where Ultrascale Digital Infrastructure comes in.

The Solution
Ultrascale: Taking You to the Future, Today!
Ultrascale Digital Infrastructure (UDI) delivers a new approach to immersion cooling. Our approach addresses regulatory pressures, pleases ESG-conscious investors, and supports multiple generations of hot and dense data center hardware without radically redesigning your data center. With a mix of proven, mature technologies and patent-pending innovations, we build solutions to help both legacy and greenfield data centers cool without compromise.
Our approach combines vertical immersion cooling within a standard rack footprint and Rack-Door Heat eXchanger (RDHx) technologies, allowing our customers to increase density by 10x or more while reducing the use of energy and water hungry conventional cooling — anywhere in the world, regardless of climate.
The UDI solution changes the dynamics of data center design. Not only can we future proof new and existing data centers, not only can we empower data center operators to support the most demanding infrastructure, we unlock new possibilities for data center site selection, construction, operation, and utilization by rapidly increasing compute capacity per square meter.
UDI cooling technologies cut emissions, waste, and costs.
